The Rs. 4,54,20,000 Question #1

Or The 45.42 mya Question #1 (and that would make it Ages-Old, right about the time when there are records of primates splitting up into two divisions on some question)...

I have decided to make my blog "legit", i.e. to have serious content on the blog, which sparks some serious discussion and makes the readers* think. So, first in series of serious questions which will be pondered here:

In a survey conducted by me recently (just finished the number-crunching), it was found that 62.5% of the female bloggers and 33% of the male bloggers in my Google Reader list don't display their ages in the profiles. This leads us to the age old question, which has been forced to the forefront again:

Why do women hide their age?

Now, let the discussion begin...

P.S. How many of you did I get by all that taking it "legit" gambit? OK, I will tell you the real story behind this... I woke from my siesta with a firm purpose of doing some completely non-sensical things. And that's where the idea was born.
That said, I would like some discussion...

*Note the fact that the number of users is cleverly left out.

Lolll.. so you are looking into each blogger's profile to find out age!!

Well, women are atleast honest by doing so (that they don't want to reveal the age).
Who knows how many men tell their correct age considering it's all on line thing.

@Cuckoo: The age in profile is calculated by using your birth-year, not entered by anybody. And believe me, no guy would make his age lesser than what it is... perhaps (18 or) older, but not younger ;)

And, you believe a white lie is better?

btw let me tell u why women hid their age...cos they r ageless.

oops I said that already na LOL!

@Keshi: Now that's spooky. About 2 minutes ago, I was thinking what kind of comments I would get on this post, and I thought most girls would say that's because they are "ageless beauties"... We are seriously developing some kind of ESP between us, what with the ghostess the other day and now this...

Anyways, ageless beauty is more enchanting when her age is ahem... known, if you know what I mean ;)

i think women hide their age because they are clever...

so when you mix up clever and age you get cle(a)vage...

and it is not a sensible thing to display your cle(a)vage unless they are rakhi sawant or paris hilton...

and pple say i write a lot!!

well cant really commment on why girls dont tell their age... after all a girl is the mystery man has never been able to solve (I guess in 1 story, even Sherlock holmes was flumoxed by a lady - can't remember the name of the story)

and regd guys - i have not seen any one hiding his age.... may be his white hair - but not age.. and the 33% u have recorded must be by chance.. or unintentional or lazy but not secretive..

@iyer educucation: wow!!! guess you have cracked da code!!!!but rakhi sawant and clever... thats bit like chalk and cheese.. no???

@Deepa: Yes, got bored with the old one. Change is to men as hiding age is to women ;)
And women don't live in reality, thank god you said that...
Re: your time, read my comment on your blog, and tell me if it is correct.

@Iyer sir: You have hit the nail on the head as usual (which can be said only to men, as girls will start inspecting all their nails and crying "have I broken a nail", with all the trauma that is involved...)
But given today's trends, don't you think a fleeting glimpse would err... ensure further attention? Given my limited knowledge of history of fashion, off-shoulder gowns came much earlier than the ones which showed some ankle ;)

@Sid: I write small posts a lot, which don't take more than 2-3 minutes. (Replying to comments is another matter altogether)
The story is "The Scandal in Bohemia", and Holmes wasn't flumoxed, she was almost equal of his. Though Irene Adler will always be The Lady for him.
Re: women being mystery, that was the reason I started this discussion. Thought a little light and a fleeting glimpse of the answer would be good for mankind in general. Look forward to more such questions in future ;)
And one more interesting observation, 90% of the men who have hidden their ages have gfs or are already bethroted...

Amey said...

@Sid: Stupid mistake... read that as The Woman...

lets not even talk about that attention... that is something that women want to divert from when it comes to their age... but want most of it when displaying their err... kinda strange i say :P

SiD said...

@fleiger: see again some confusion on the attention issue..
do they want or dont they...
if u stare at a beautiful girl (and dressed beautifully) she will say "road side romeo.. idiot..no sense.."

and if by chance no one notices her in the party.... she give away the poor dress to the maid.. thats why i am glad i am a man.. no such complexities in life..

sorry diverting from the age issue but i was trying to look at a bigger picture..
(am i speaking like i am still in a status update meeting?? yes.. i think so)

Amey said...

@Iyer sir and Sid: yes, we are kind of butting into the second in series of Rs. 45.42 million questions... But still, that's one of the enigmas of life too.

No more girl comments? I guess they want to keep their opinios secret too? ;)

Keshi said...

ABRACADABRA keep me ageless!

:)

Keshi.

Amey said...

@Keshi: We love our beauties ageless... but then, we should know the age of the beauties to know that they are ageless right? ;)

(Now, that's a logic)

i read ur comment .. but couldnt make out what u meant by the last comment

Amey said...

@Deepa: I meant, how can we know and admire the "ageless" beauty when we don't know the age? I mean, a 35 year old lady looking like 25 year old girl would be admired more if it is known that she is 35, right? ;)

@Nikichan: Going by your photos, you are not that old... And whatever we say, we like women who are mysterious :)
Anyways, I don't know many men who would give their ages as less than actual. I always thought men wanted to sound older, as old = more respected... Still, as I found, hiding age is not only done by women, only women do it more often.
And I did not do anything about your blog nikichan, thanks for saying that... Glad that you are back online :)

Keshi said...

Fleiger I think age is just a number...as long as ur not over 50 that is LOL!

Keshi.

Amey said...

@Keshi: Hmm, and so most of the gilrs (and maybe some of the boys) are arithmophibic ;)
And btw, I did not consider the possiblity of putting wrong age (which would be hard to check in many cases). So tell me, would that have changed the statistics?

venus said...

Age is very relative, if you are on earth, your age is xx years, and if you are in space, you are ageless, so it's very relative. And that is why women do not want to cofuse the already confused martians :)

liked your blog, and have also linked you if you don't mind.

Amey said...

@Venus: Yes, I can see the reasons behind your name now ;)
And I know what you are talking about... when a girl says she is 18 yrs old, she is talking about venusian years (around 240 days I guess), while boys take it as 18 martian years (nearly 668 days) which is nearer to truth in some cases. Can result in many problems...
And thanks for adding me. Do visit my other blog too :D
